Big Mack Project

Separation Rapids Area, Kenora Mining Division, ON., Canada

MEGA Graphite Inc.’s 100% owned Big Mack Project consists of 150 contiguous claim units covering an area of approximately 6,400 acres within the Separation Lake Greenstone Belt of Northwestern Ontario.

The Separation Lake Greenstone Belt (SLGB) is host to the most important rare-element pegmatites in Ontario and may contain the greatest number of complex-type, petalite-subtype pegmatite occurrences in Canada. These pegmatites are host to many rare elements and metals such as lithium, tantalum, niobium, tin, rubidium and cesium. The Property also has considerable potential for discovery of base metal and gold deposits.

The earliest indication of rare metal deposits in the property area, date back to 1932. More recently, a reconnaissance program conducted by the Ontario Geological Survey (in 2000) identified pegmatites containing elevated lithium and beryllium concentrations. While exploring for gold and base metals during the early 1990's, explorationists identified a series of rare metal bearing pegmatites in the property area.

In 1997, a second world-class petalite-bearing pegmatite referred to as the "Big Mack” pegmatite system was discovered the MEGA Graphite Inc. Property. This deposit has a minimum strike length of 3 km and an average breadth of 200 m, consisting of a swarm of beryl-type and complex-type, petalite-subtype pegmatites.

In addition to the Big Mack deposit, three, large, yet largely unexplored rare metal pegmatites have also been identified on the Property.

To date, exploration work has included only surface sampling and most exploration at the reconnaissance level. No significant diamond drilling has been conducted on any of the rare metal pegmatites identified on the Property, except for the Big Mack deposit, which has been subjected to only limited work. MEGA Graphite Inc. believes that the known larger pegmatites already identified are significant exploration targets that are worthy of follow-up testing. MEGA Graphite Inc. also believes that the property contains significant potential for the discovery of additional rare-metal bearing pegmatites, based on the geological setting.   For more information about MEGA Graphite’s Big Mack project, click here
